IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), Goa will be starting their classes for the first batch temporarily Goa Engineering College is Farmagudi, Ponda. Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsek made the announcement after meeting Union HRD Ministry Minister Smriti Irani. He also announced that this year 100 students will get registered in the first group through JEE 2015.
Previously, the idea of taking off the session by the Government College, Pernem rejected by HRD minister says that the place was not suitable. So, for the time they agreed to kick start the session at Goa Engineering College.
HRD ministry even turned down the proposal 9 lakh square meters of land for setting up IIT Goa says space will not be sufficient for the campus. It is expected that the Ministry will agree to a minimum of 15 lakh square meters of land for the campus. The state government has decided to contribute space acquired sports City to Goa IIT campus.
