In the year 1954, all women of India Central Food Council under the leadership was based Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia in recent years the village. Lilavati Munshi.
End of the village. Lilavati Munshi with a group of courageous women which included Smt. Homi J H Taleyarkhan and Smt. Lila N jog called all the women of India Central Food Council established a chain Annapoornas (restaurants) throughout the country, but especially in the metropolitan cities to prepare and sell economic but nutritionally sound snacks and foods.
The goal was to improve the nutritional status of an average of high grain diet to a balanced diet. However, the critical factor was to find trained staff to perform these Annapoornas self-financing. Hence the birth of the educational institution - IGM Mumbai.
Hotel management and catering technology is still a young discipline in those days it was even in the west, in fact, the school administration at Cornell University bifurcated from the Department of Home Economics as a separate faculty only in 1954.
