Jiwaji University Gwalior came on May 23, 1964, created by MP Govt. Ordinance No. 15 of 1963. Leave Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the then President of India, laid the foundation stone on 11 December 1964 on a sprawling campus of over 225 acres of land on Naulakha parade ground. This was a generous contribution of Sindia, in certain Kailashwasi Shrimant Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia and late Rajmata Shrimati Vijayaraje Scindia. The institution was named after the name of Kailashwasi Shrimant Jiwajirao Scindia as a standing memorial to his persona. The motto of the University is embedded in its logo Vidyaya Prapyate Tejah. It is now nearly forty seven years University witnessed a logarithmic phase of growth. It has also seen the progress that can parallel with other national / international academic instutions. The brotherhood of the University contributed with full force for the growth of this institution is flourshing and fragrancing in the difficult terrain of Chambal and Gwalior region and the promotion of higher education for the better quality of life of the people.
During the IX Plan voluntarily University for evaluation and accreditation by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of UGC. The Commission appreciates the approach of interdisciplinary teaching, extracurricular activities, health and awareness programs, healthy student-teacher relations, transparent admission procedure, cosmopolitan Student Profile, wise use of resources and quality of research. The University has been accredited with "FOUR STAR" status. The University is now ready again for NAAC accredation. The UGC XI Plan Commission also appreciates the achievements of the University on several fronts.
